Mission
The Diversity Council (DC), a student advisory board for our office, provides the means for communication between cultural and advocacy student organizations and the Multicultural Center. This space allows activities and concerns common to such organizations the opportunity to be handled cooperatively and effectively. In addition, DC acts as a resource for cultural student organizations to mobilize around campus issues and holds the University accountable to diversity policies within student life.
The council also acts as a resource for student organizations to:
- Mobilize around an issue pertinent to the University
- Provide a guide to utilizing University resources for club activities
- Hold the University accountable to diversity policy in student life
- Advise the Multicultural Center on programming and development.
Membership
The Diversity Council will consist of students representing cultural and advocacy organizations that are recognized by the Student Association. Each organization will have one representative on the Diversity Council.
Advisor
The staff sponsor will be the director of the Multicultural Center. This individual will act as an advisor to the Council and a spokesperson for the university and the Multicultural Center.
Meetings
The Diversity Council will meet 2 to 3 times a semester (no more than once a month), and at other times when specifically called for by the Advisor.
Those representatives who are unable to attend are required to send another representative from their organization to act as a proxy in their absence.
